The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has stepped up its efforts to support the education sector in Yemen during the first half of this year, rehabilitating 13 schools in 5 governorates benefiting nearly 10,000 students.

The UAE and Saudi Arabia have provided US $ 70 million to teachers whose salaries have been suspended in collaboration with UNICEF, as well as several projects related to the development and strengthening of the education sector in the various liberated governorates of Yemen.

The rehabilitation operations benefited 9,900 students in the five governorates and enabled them to resume their basic and secondary education. In mid-May, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, in cooperation with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), provided US $ 70 million in support to Yemeni teachers whose salaries had been cut off in a move to bridge the gap in Yemen’s education sector And opening its doors to students.

The program provides monthly cash incentives to 130,000 teachers, benefiting 3.7 million Yemeni children in the governorates of Ibb, Amanah al-Amira, al-Baydah, Hajja, Dhamar, Sa’ada, Sana’a, Amran, Mahweet and Rima.

In addition, the UAE has rehabilitated the Musawat library in Aden, while completion work is under way in the Zayed Complex in Socotra. The support of the educational sector in Yemen has also included the distribution of school facts to 4,500 students in Hadramout and Abyan, and the distribution of 50 laptops In the city of Jess.

The UAE rehabilitated 36 educational facilities last year, “the year of Zayed” and distributed nearly 10,000 school bags and 10,000 school uniforms in various liberated areas, which helped bring some 24,000 students back to school.

Since 2015, the UAE has built and rehabilitated more than 320 schools and provided education to more than 2 million students, whether directly or through the United Nations organizations represented by UNICEF.

These initiatives reaffirm the UAE’s humanitarian mission in Yemen through a pioneering role to sustain the educational process and the students are not affected by the Houthi coup that deprived thousands of Yemenis from continuing their education.

The UAE has observed the liberation of the provinces with immediate humanitarian assistance, including most of the development and service sectors in support of the stability of its population.
