The Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA) has completed the construction of power transmission and distribution stations and the extension of power cables in the areas it covers, worth AED 500 million between 2018 and 2019.

The Authority has completed 35 projects in the water sector over the past five years in all northern regions of the country with more than one billion dirhams. The Authority has completed 3 projects to replace old water networks with a value of AED 110 million.

The Federal Electricity and Water Authority is currently working on the construction of transmission and distribution stations of electricity between 33 and 132 kV and the extension of high and medium voltage cables to connect these stations to the main network worth one billion and 300 million dirhams in the framework of future projects in the electricity sector until 2022.

The Ghulaila desalination plant in Ras Al Khaimah is also an example of achieving high efficiency in production as it is one of the largest desalination projects in accordance with the reverse osmosis system in the country, which cost AED 320 million and produces about 15 million gallons of desalinated water per day. In terms of electricity consumption in the Middle East by 3.14 kWh per cubic meter of water, while the project reduces energy loss by 24% and the project reduces the proportion of carbon emissions by 6800 tons per year in addition to achieving financial savings in operating costs by 105 million dirhams over 20 Years.

The Authority has launched several important initiatives aimed at the sustainability of the energy sector in the UAE and reducing the carbon footprint, including the initiative “smart meters” with the aim of installing 750 thousand smart meters until 2021, including 300 thousand water meters and 350 thousand electricity meters, where 25 thousand meters are currently installed and connected to the system In addition to the initiative to install rationalization devices for residential and government departments, where the Authority was able to install more than 850 thousand rationalization devices since 2015 to date, including 32 thousand houses for citizens in all northern regions in addition to 31 government buildings and 250 mosques so far with a plan to cover all mosques An average of 60 mosques per year and 180 m A study to date with a plan to cover all schools at the rate of 60 schools each year as the estimated amount of water saved through this project is about one and a half million gallons, a reduction of about 32%.

With regard to the initiatives of rationalization of consumption .. The Authority launched the initiative “KFH is important” and targeted in the first phase 100 homes with high consumption to reduce the consumption of electricity by 10-20% and water by 30%, through the development of recommendations and solutions, which included changing lighting and air conditioning systems And water.

The Authority has also installed 50 green charger stations for electric vehicles in the northern areas of the country, ranging from medium speed charger in some government buildings, commercial centers and some hospitals in addition to the fast charger and is installed on highways and gas stations.

The project aims to charge a single electric vehicle within a period of 20 to 45 minutes for fast chargers and infrastructure development in line with the UAE Energy Strategy 2050, which aims to reduce the carbon footprint and increase reliance on renewable and clean energy sources.
